  1. Elena Ong Says:

    Kudos to AAPIs for Obama!

Because of you, “Yes We Can” became “Yes We Did!”

Per CNN & ABC, an even higher percentage of AAPIs turned out for Obama at the national level:

    Asians: 63% Obama, 34% McCain
    Latinos: 67% Obama, 30% McCain
African Americans: 96% Obama, 3% McCain

Clearly, the 50-state strategy and the multi-racial/ethnic message worked!

By ENERGIZING & INCLUDING everyone, we “lifted all boats” and “LIFTED ALL VOTES.”

By thinking outside the box, we transformed the electoral map. In non-swing states like California, we had multi-lingual phone bankers of every age and every color calling millions of voters, from 6 AM to Florida to 9 PM in Alaska, so our “boots in the field” could deliver voters to the polls so we could win by a landslide!

As Barack said, it is the people of America, and the people of the world, who brought CHANGE to the White House.

It is because of you - your network, your talent, and your teamwork that spans the world - that America’s global stature and reputation has improved. For example, Kenya declared a national holiday, and the people of Jakarta and Pakistan expressed how proud they are that America has elected a leader who understands Asian culture, belief systems and faith, to become President of the United States.

At the end of the day, we did more than win this election by a landslide, we inspired a future stream of voters and leaders for elected office. GenerASIAN Obama is GenerASIAN Next and Generation Next. Not only did we empower organizers to empower voters (and not just votes), we delivered a landslide that trumped the “fear factor” of vote suppression, and unnecessary “competition” over who delivered Barack by a “margin of win.”

We are riding the crest of a new wave. Even though high-propensity voters over 65 voted for McCain (people who were over 21 or out of college during the time of the Civil Rights, Anti-War, Women’s Rights and Voting Rights Movements), we were successful in persuading 90% of Hillary & Edwards supporters to support Barack, and attracting a brand new generation of “high-propensity voters,” voters who will continue to vote in the future because they were “fired up” by your energy and this great new INCLUSIVE MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE.

Thanks for delivering the AAPI vote, the Ha’pa vote, and the every women, every men’s vote.

Here’s some national and state statistics and pie/bar charts:

    http://abcnews.go.com/pollingunit/exitpolls.

These AAPI numbers suggest that AAPIs have a lower voter participation rate, than their population data and voter registration would suggest. Part of the issue is sampling methodology, lack of in-language surveyors, that a higher percentage of AAPIs vote by mail and/or may not be available to respond to a pollster’s call should they be staffing their store/restaurant or working the evening shift.

National: AAPIs are 2% of national Vote
62% of AAPIs voted for Obama*
    (recalibrated)

National: Women are 53% of national Vote
56% of Women voted for Obama

Hawaii: AAPIs are 30% of HI’s Vote
68% of HI AAPIs voted for Obama

Hawaii: Women are 52% of HI’s Vote
72% of HI Women voted for Obama

California: AAPIs are 6% of CA’s Vote
64% of CA AAPIs voted for Obama

CA: Women are 54% of CA’s Vote
64% of CA Women voted for Obama

  3. Sam Wong Says:

Now that President-elect Obama has won a sea of change, will the narrow-minded public still view AAPI’s as not being able to think, strategize, and act “outside the box?” What more does it take for us to convince decision-makers holding that glass ceiling that America historically has prevailed in seemingly insurmountable challenges by people including, but not limited to, AAPIs who think and do outside the box?

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
