Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) Reception
for Democratic National Committee AAPI Caucus a “Big Success”

AUSTIN, TX – Utilizing its recognized role as the sole representative political organization of Asian Americans in this state, the Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) gave a Texas-sized welcome to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Caucus of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on September 10 in Austin. Caucus members attending the reception included Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong, Keith Umemoto, Chair of the DNC Credentials Committee, Jadine Nielsen, Russell Okata, and Jennifer Vanderheide, Chief of Staff to DNC Vice Chair Rep. Mike Honda. Noting AADT’s remarkable success in organizing Asian Americans in Texas politics, Chair Leong-Hong observed, “In order for AAPIs to be truly included at all levels of government, whether appointed or elected, the first step is getting involved with groups such as AADT. AADT’s impressive organization at the state and local level is a model for the rest of the country.”

Changing the Country, One Blog at a Time

Posted by rko

Cross-posted from Asian Pacific Americans for Progress:

About four hours ago, I arrived at the Pittsburgh airport, ready for a weekend of education, networking, and activism known as Netroots Nation 2009. Begun just a few years ago under the moniker Yearly Kos, Netroots Nation is now the premiere annual convention in the country for online progressive activism. It’s an event that has given everyday people, young and old, the opportunity to make their voices heard. Because of the success of the organizing model that has transformed American politics in the last few years, including the election of President Barack Obama, a guy like me who started blogging at his parents’ kitchen table in Texas now has the opportunity to speak about the issues facing our country directly with US Senators, White House advisers, and more.

National AAPI House Party with Konrad Ng

Posted by Eugenia

A Nation-Wide Conversation on the State of AAPI w/ Konrad Ng and other special guests

Sunday, May 31, 2009
4 pm EST/1 pm PST

Consider hosting a party. It’s easy. Just gather 12-20 friends, family members or co-workers and call into our conference call. You can even provide snacks or make it a potluck. After hearing from our special guests on the call, we encourage you to engage in a conversation with your guests to discuss what issues are important to you, write up a report and post it on the APAP website with pictures. This will become a record of the issues that AAPI’s around the country are talking about. We’ll even submit our report to the Obama administration.

Email Patrice for details or to sign up your house party!

More details at APA for Progress.
