Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama

Posted by Anjani Nadadur

This morning on Meet the Press, Colin Powell, one of the most decorated military officers of modern times and former Secretary of State, endorsed Barack Obama saying, “he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president.  I think he is a transformational figure.  He is a new generation coming into the world–onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama.” Powell, a Republican, was widely considered to have the chance to be the first African-American president.

Volunteer for Change in Oregon!

Posted by rko

When the dust settles on November 4, no matter the outcome, will you be able to say that you did everything you could to put Barack Obama in the White House? The Republican attack machine is on the loose again, reinvigorated by their latest recruit, Sarah Palin.  With the polls showing this race as too close to call, it’s up to us, the grassroots, to fight back.

While past presidential campaigns have often disregarded the AAPI vote, Sen. Obama knows that Oregon is one of the key states where the AAPI vote can make the difference and needs each of us to get involved and make our voices heard. In the most recent SurveyUSA poll of Oregon, Obama leads McCain by 3%.  AAPIs comprise 3.7% of the population in Oregon, which could make the critical difference in a close election.  That’s why Asian Americans for Obama is working with the Obama campaign in Oregon to register and reach out to AAPI voters, one person at a time.  With just a month left to register to vote in Oregon, we need you to join the team!

Sign up online to volunteer for upcoming AAPI outreach events in the Portland, Eugene, and Beaverton areas. After you complete the form, you’ll receive an e-mail with more details.  And please let us know at info@asianamericansforobama.com if you or someone you know can help organize additional volunteers in your community, or if you have suggestions for additional events.

Together, we can change Oregon and our country!

Asian Americans for Obama on the Obama Blog!

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

The campaign website has a video up from the pre-debate rally yesterday in Austin.  I got interviewed on camera, so I took the opportunity to promote what Asian Americans for Obama has been doing and talk about my support for Sen. Obama.  It feels pretty thrilling to be on the campaign blog.  I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about Texas from the experience of the last few days.  Whatever happens, this has been a historic experience.

Translators Wanted!

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

Now that the Obama campaign has released an updated fact sheet on Barack and APA issues, Asian Americans for Obama needs your help to translate this document into various Asian languages.

As you may have seen in our earlier post, we already have versions of the flyer in traditional and simplified Chinese.  However, out of a desire to keep them to one page, those flyers only included the following issues from the complete fact sheet:

*Reform and Fund No Child Left Behind
*Give More High Schoolers Access to College Courses
*Increase Federal College Aid
*Free Up Money for Student Aid
*Invest in Small Businesses
*Build Framework for East Asian Cooperation
*Reforming H-1B Visas

We still need help translating the complete flyer into traditional and simplified Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, Japanese, and more.

If you would like to offer your skills, simply download the APA Fact Sheet below, translate the document, and e-mail the completed version to us at asianamericansforobama@gmail.com.  As translated versions become available, we will post them to this site for download.

Thanks for all your help!
