California AAPI Caucus Chair Assembly Member Ted Lieu On Why He Supports Obama
Posted by Asian Americans for ObamaAssembly Member Lieu writes:
"I endorsed Senator Obama for a number of reasons, first and foremost
of which is that I believe he would be a better President than any
other candidate for our great nation. After enduring seven years of one
of the most partisan Presidents in US history—with one of the worst
foreign policies in our history—the next President should be someone
who can unify this nation and not further divide us, and one who can
restore America’s standing in the world. I believe Senator Obama is
that person.
Senator Obama’s position on a range of policy issues, from
healthcare to the mortgage foreclosure crisis to education to the
environment, would greatly benefit all Americans, including Asian
Pacific Islanders. His approach to governance is also fundamentally
different than any other Democratic candidate. He alone makes a
concerted effort to reach out to independents and moderate Republicans.
The API community, in contrast to other minority communities, has
significantly more registered independents and moderate Republicans. To
truly get bold initiatives accomplished, what we Democrats need is a
working majority that gets non-Democrats to cross over, not further
partisanship."
