Happy holidays everyone! Great news! In order to accommodate as many organizations’ schedule that is affected by the holiday rush last week and this week, the Presidential Inaugural Committee’s final deadline for community organizations to submit their MLK Day of Service events for inclusion the launch of the PIC National Day of Service website has been changed to this Friday, January 2nd.

The Obama-Biden campaign and transition team have made an unprecedented effort to reach out to and include the AAPI community. Now it’s time for us to demonstrate our commitment to our communities and give back through service.
Asian Americans for Obama has been asking our grassroots network to organize community service events in your area. Examples of events include: volunteering at an AAPI domestic violence shelter, rebuilding homes damaged in recent natural disasters, organizing a free legal or health clinic, collecting school supplies for underprivileged children, or even a bake sale to raise funds for a charity. Organize an event today and send the following information to events@asianamericansforobama.com:
Although it started with good intentions, the Sonal Shah saga is fast becoming a political witchhunt.
As you may know, Sonal Shah was recently appointed to President-Elect Obama’s Transition Team. For her part, Shah brings impressive credentials to the table. Currently an executive with Google, Shah had served as a Clinton Treasurer Department official, worked for Obama Transition Co-Chair John Podesta (at the Center for American Progress), and was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs.

Just returned from the New Organizing Institute’s Post-Election Rootscamp, an open conference for progressive online and offline organizers who worked on the 2008 election cycle, held in Washington, DC.
Highlights of this year’s open space-styled conference (in which conference participants lead their own sessions) included sessions led by Obama campaign Western Regional Field Director Buffy Wicks and Professor Marshall Ganz, father of the teams model of organizing implemented nation-wide by the Obama campaign.
On December 16 in Chicago, President-elect Obama held a press conference to announce key members of his energy and environment team, including Dr. Steven Chu as Energy Secretary. Read the President-Elect’s remarks and view photos at Change.gov.
We’re wanting to show the transition team the advantages of subtitling Obama’s weekly addresses in several languages. Particularly into Spanish and several Asian languages.
If you know of some translators into Korean, Vietnamese, or any other Asian languages that would like to volunteer to translate one weekly address into one of those languages, we’d appreciate it.
