Knocking on History’s Door

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

Thanks to the efforts of grassroots supporters such as you and I, the Obama campaign has reached yet another historic milestone - at this point, more people have donated to the Obama campaign than ANY OTHER CAMPAIGN IN HISTORY at this point in an election!

From the campaign:

History is happening right now. At midnight on June 30th, this chapter will be written.

Be Inspired and Be Counted

Make a donation during these critical final hours and be counted:

Be Counted

There are few times in life when you have the opportunity to be part of a historic moment.

Last
night, the 250,000th person gave to this campaign. Think about that for
a second — more people have donated to this campaign than any campaign
in history at this point in an election.

The sheer number of
people who own a piece of this campaign proves that we can change the
old game of money-for-influence politics. Nobody thought we could do
this. Nobody thought it was possible.

The window to be part
of this moment is closing in less than 48 hours. At midnight on June
30th, this chapter of history will be written. Those who participated
will look back with pride; everyone else will look back with
astonishment at what was achieved.

Thousands of people
stepped up much sooner than expected and hit this historic mark. We
blew past 250,000 donors and now have one final goal to reach: 350,000
donations from as many people as possible.

This is your
opportunity, as someone who has given already, to send a loud and clear
message about the depth of your commitment. Because of you we have been
able to make history. Tens of thousands of new donors have poured in
over the past few days thanks to the momentum you created. But it’s
going to take a renewed commitment from all of us to reach this mark.

Thank
you for all you have done to build our movement. But the time has come
for everyone to be counted again — please make a donation during these
crucial final 48 hours:

Sometimes it’s hard to see that history’s happening when you’re right in the middle of it. But it’s happening right now.

People like you are seizing the moment everywhere in America.

Here are a few stories from those who have given in the last 24 hours:

Let’s Make History

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

If
you can help hit the goal of 350,000 donations by June 30th, it will
send a powerful message that our movement is both bigger and deeper
than anything presidential politics has ever seen.

Be counted be inspired

Be inspired and be counted:

Be counted be inspired

I have some extraordinary news for you.

We
crunched the numbers last night, and because we hit our goal so quickly
– 10,000 people have already donated to the campaign this week –
things have changed.

Suddenly, we’re within reach of something no presidential campaign has ever dreamed of at this stage.

With your support, we could reach 350,000 donations for the year by the June 30th filing deadline.

You’re
one of almost 250,000 people who have made nearly 350,000 donations so
far, and it’s your generosity that has made this historic opportunity
possible.

Now we have a chance to seize the moment and make history.

The
media and the Washington pundits are so focused on the money chase that
they have missed the bigger story. Each donation to this campaign is a
declaration of commitment to the idea that we can change our politics
and elect a leader who will inspire and unite this country.

If
you can help hit the goal of 350,000 donations by June 30th, it will
send a powerful message that our movement is both bigger and deeper
than anything presidential politics has ever seen.

The count
is live on BarackObama.com, and your donation can make that number grow
right now. Show your commitment and be counted before the June 30th
deadline:

http://www.barackobama.com/inspire

This
campaign has become a vehicle for hundreds of thousands of Americans
who believe that the people can take control of the political process
again.

Who are the nearly 250,000 people to give so far? Watch some of them in their own words:

Obama’s Sister in Hawaii

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

As some of you may know, Sen. Obama’s sister Maya Soetoro-Ng is of Indonesian descent.  On Sunday, while Sen. Obama was attending a rally in San Antonio, Maya delivered a message for her brother.

From the Associated Press via KPUA:

Obama sends message to Hawaii rally via sister
By Associated Press

HONOLULU
(AP) _ Senator Barack Obama told voters in Hawaii yesterday that a
failure of leadership was preventing the nation from meeting its many
challenges from war to a broken health care system.

The
Honolulu-born Democratic presidential candidate delivered the words in
a letter his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, read to some 125 people at
Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.

The
senator from Illinois was campaigning in Texas on Sunday, speaking at
an event that drew about one thousand people in San Antonio.

One voter who attended the Honolulu rally walked away convinced by Obama.

Christopher Pittman is a 26-year-old black Army sergeant from Whiteville, North Carolina.

He says he just wanted to know what Obama was willing to do to meet the needs of all Americans.

He says he heard enough at the rally to commit his support to Obama.

Make Your Donation Before the End of the Next Quarterly Fundraising Report

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

Make a donation
and share your
story of inspiration

Donate and Inspire

BarackObama.com/inspire

Candidates
typically spend a week like this — right before the critical June 30th
financial reporting deadline — on the phone day and night, begging
Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs to write huge checks.

Not
me. Our campaign has rejected the money-for-influence game and refused
to accept funds from registered federal lobbyists and political action
committees.

But there are serious financial consequences to that decision.

Cutting
off the flow of easy Washington money means we have to work harder.
Instead of relying on a handful of powerful interests, we must bring
together hundreds of thousands of supporters, each owning an individual
piece of our movement.

It’s one thing to talk about financing
campaigns differently. It’s another for us to take that risk and put
our trust in one another.

The June 30th deadline will prove
that this era of broken politics and widespread cynicism is coming to a
close. We’re ready for that change, and together we can turn the page.

The
rest of the country, and the world, is watching. They want to see if we
can shake up the politics of the past and set the tone for this
election and the future of our democracy.

You have already shown your support this month, but now you can share your inspiration.

Make a donation and be a part of something big:

http://www.barackobama.com/inspire

But don’t stop there.

If
we’re going to get hundreds of thousands of people to join our
movement, we need to do something different. That’s why I’m turning the
rest of this fundraising drive over to you.

This is the last you will hear from me until after the June 30th deadline.

From
here on out, your stories and your passion will determine our success.
When you make a donation, I want you to share what inspired you to join
our movement. For the rest of the week, those stories — including your
story — will drive the results.

Something powerful and
personal inspired you to join our movement. It may be your family’s
rising health care costs or a relative fighting in Iraq. You might be
fed up with corruption in Washington or frustrated by how petty and
divisive our national politics has become.

Whatever your
reasons, they will connect with someone else and they will make a
difference. Make your donation now and share what inspired you to
support our movement for change:

http://wwww.barackobama.com/inspire

Pundits
and Washington insiders use these fundraising deadlines to measure the
viability of campaigns. They like to judge potential in dollars, as if
money alone somehow indicates widespread support.

But we
measure success in people — the number of supporters giving to the
campaign, and the number of donations they make to show their
commitment.

We can get at least 10,000 people involved this week, but only if you take control.

Each
of us must reach out to the people we know — our friends, family,
colleagues, and neighbors — and inspire them to join our movement for
change.

Donate now.  Share your story and spread the word:

http://www.barackobama.com/inspire

Watch our website and your inbox for real stories from supporters like you.

This fundraising deadline is an important challenge for our campaign, but I know I can put my trust in you.

I have faith that we will succeed, and it won’t be because of me — it will be because each of you has the power to inspire.

Thank you.

Barack

Barack Obama

P.S.
– We’ve built something together that’s bigger than me or my
candidacy. I just made my own donation to this movement and wrote a
short note about how you’ve inspired me:

I’ve seen
what can happen when people who love their country come together and
decide it’s time for change. As a community organizer in the South Side
of Chicago, I was part of a movement that turned around neighborhoods
that others had given up on. I know what’s possible for this country. I
know we can build a new kind of politics that recognizes we’re all
connected as one people, that we rise or fall as one nation, and that
we’re ready to turn the page and start anew.

Texting for Obama

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

FYI - How to get text messages from the campaign:

Our movement for change is on the go in all fifty states, and you can help it grow offline.

The
goal of our online efforts is to connect you with other supporters in
the real world. Today there are two ways you can move that effort
forward.

To start, sign up to receive text messages
on your phone and stay in touch with the campaign wherever you go. If
you sign up before the end of the month, we’ll send you a free bumper
sticker to help spread the word:

http://www.barackobama.com/go

But
don’t stop there. Let your friends and neighbors know they don’t need a
computer to be a part of the movement. Anyone with a cellphone can text
GO to OBAMA (62262) and join our campaign.

Print a Go Mobile for Obama flyer and put it up in your neighborhood:

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/gomobileflyer.pdf

Text
messages will keep you and your friends connected to the movement. Be
the first to know about local campaign events. Get reminders about
debates and important public appearances. And connect to our organizing
staff to build the movement in your community.

But don’t worry.
We respect your phone and your privacy, so updates will be periodic and
we’ll never share your personal information.

Sign up to receive text messages and get a free Obama for America bumper sticker:

http://www.barackobama.com/go

Our movement is ready to move with you, online and offline.

Thanks for your support,
David
