Obama Statement on Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

From Sen. Obama:

Chicago, IL - "I spent much of my childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia,
and for most of my adult life, I’ve lived in Chicago, a city with its
own vibrant Asian American and Pacific Islander community. So I join
millions of Americans in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage
Month by honoring the many contributions this community has made to our
country."

"Let’s honor them by rededicating ourselves to the challenges we all
have in common - whether it’s protecting our civil rights, making
college more affordable, or passing comprehensive immigration reform.
And let’s fight for affordable, high-quality health care, so we can
cover the 2.4 million Asian American and Pacific Islanders who are
currently uninsured. Finally, let’s make sure that Asian American and
Pacific Islanders are getting the pay and jobs they deserve by raising
the minimum wage and investing in small businesses."

"This month, let’s honor Asian American and Pacific Islanders by coming together to build a better future for all Americans."

The statement is availabe on the campaign website here.

16 More Votes

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

From the Obama campaign:

Dear Ramey,

 Barack
has been traveling across the country asking people to speak out and
let their Senators know that it’s time to end the Iraq war.

One
Republican colleague has already called this "not Senatorial." But this
isn’t about Washington etiquette, it’s about bringing our troops home.

This
isn’t a game. We need just 16 additional votes to override the
president’s veto and bring to a close this sad chapter in American
history.

It’s going to take some convincing, but Senators
need to hear from people in their states that they can join us to bring
a responsible end to the war.

That’s where you come in. In
your state, an incumbent Senator who voted against ending the war will
face a re-election battle in 2008. They will have to make clear very
soon whether they will continue to block efforts to bring the troops
home.

Will you speak out now and add your voice to the growing public pressure to end the war?

http://my.barackobama.com/16votesaway

With
one signature, George Bush could have ended this war. Instead, he
vetoed the legislation, ignoring the reality on the ground in Iraq yet
again.

But that will not be the last word if the American
people have anything to say about it. In the Senate, we need just 16
additional votes to override the veto and end the Iraq war.

This
isn’t the time to trust the president to do the right thing. It’s time
to end this war, and across the country people need to speak out and
let their Senators know.

No one of us can do it alone, and
it’s not going to happen tomorrow. But a movement to create the kind of
change we need starts with you.

Thank you,
David

Taking It to the Streets

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

From the Obama Campaign:

Dear Ramey,

Walk for ChangeFor
too many people, politics is a bad word. It’s not surprising since for
many people "politics" means talking heads screaming at each other on
TV, or special interests stacking the deck in Washington.

We
have an opportunity to change that. When politics gets local, when the
person talking is your neighbor standing on your front porch, things
change.

On June 9th, hundreds of thousands of people will have
that experience as we take our campaign to the streets in all 50 states
for a nationwide neighborhood walk.

We’re calling it Walk for
Change, and its success depends on you. I’m asking you for something
extraordinary. I’m asking you to lead a group of supporters in your
community in a neighborhood walk to let people know about our campaign.

If
you agree to organize a walk, we’ll mail you the materials you need to
start a conversation with your neighbors about being part of this
movement for change. But it can only happen if you’re willing to take
the leap and put together a June 9th Walk for Change event where you
live:

Texans for Obama Needs Your Help!

Posted by Asian Americans for Obama

From the folks at Texans for Obama:

Team Obama,

It’s time for action! Texans for Obama is launching two major efforts to help Sen. Obama.

Effort #1:  Our next TFO Meet-up is a fundraiser at the Broken Spoke (http://www.brokenspokeaustintx.com/)
on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm. This event will feature live music and be hosted by Council Member Mike
Martinez. ($10 suggested donation)

Effort #2:  Sen. Obama is asking volunteers to organize for a nationwide
block-walk on Saturday, June 9th. TFO will meet at Hoover’s (http://www.hooverscooking.com/)
at 11:00 am as we attempt to canvas Austin with literature provided by Sen.
Obama’s campaign. Rep. Mark Strama will
host this event and provide some words of encouragement as we prepare to paint
the town blue.

Both
of these efforts require everyone to get involved.
We need your help!!!

This Saturday, May 5th TFO will meet at Victory
Grill (1104 E. 11th St.) to organize and continue outreach efforts for these
events. We will meet at 3:00 pm this Saturday at Victory
Grill!
We will be making phone calls to supporters regarding our
upcoming events. So bring your weekend
minutes and your enthusiasm for Sen. Obama. TFO will also offer a short training for those new to phone banking; a
script with all necessary info will be provided. And for you die hard Obamaniacs, afterwards you can help pass out
fliers at the various Cinco de Mayo festivities taking place throughout the
city.

Thanks in advance for your support! Bring a friend!
